What is Rakuyaki Pottery Club?
The Rakuyaki Pottery Club was established in 1969 and is the only pottery club at Tohoku University. The entire pottery process is carried out on campus.
There is a sufficient environment for immersing yourself in pottery, such as making works using hand-cranked potter wheel and electric potter wheel, mixing glazes, and using a kerosene kiln, and you are free to create works of any variety.
If you want to add color to your dining table with your own works, want to try something traditional, find a new hobby, or want to start something new, why not choose pottery?

Club Room
The club room is divided into two spaces: a work space and a conversation space.
In the work space, you can make pottery with pottery wheel. In the conversation space, there are tables, games, comics, instruments, and so on and so forth! You can study, chat with members, or just chill out there.

Kiln
The pottery you make will be fired in a kiln near the tennis court on Kawauchi campus. There are two processes for firing: "Suyaki" and "Honyaki", both of which take a long time.
We chat, study, play games, and do other things while waiting for the pottery to finish baking.

School Festival
At the school festival held every fall, we sell the pottery we have produced, such as cups, plates, bowls, and teapots.
In addition to pottery, we also sell Haniwa, which is our cute character, inspired by Japanese ancient objects.
Event Calendar
April: Welcome Week
This is an important period to introduce new students to the joy of pottery! You can visit our place to see what pottery-making is like and try to make pottery if you want!
It's not April now? Don't worry. We welcome you all year round.

May: Welcome Party
We hold a welcome party for the new students who have decided to join the club. However, this has not been held in recent years due to the ambiguity in the definition of "having decided to join" lol
Summer Vacation: BBQ
During the summer vacation, our members plan BBQs, camping, trips, etc., as they like. Plan fun events you want to do yourself!
September – October: Imoni Party
It's the best season for delicious Imoni, which is a popular soup in Miyagi and Yamagata prefecture.
Citizens from Miyagi and Yamagata always fight about which Imoni is more authentic because the taste of Imoni varies from place to place. To prevent this war, we make both types of Imoni.

November: School Festival

March: Goodbye Party
We sell pottery made by our members.
We are very grateful that many people purchase our products every year. In recent years, Haniwa, our little cute creature, has become very popular!
This is your last chance to make memories with our graduating members.
