Is there a fee to enroll in the club?
There is absolutely no fee. All you need is your hands and motivation!
All expenditures in the club, such as the cost of clay and tools, are paid out of sales at the school festival.
How many students belong to Rakuyaki Pottery Club?
There are about 7 to 10 students in each grade. We can't give you the exact number because our club is too free and some people ghost lol
There is a rich diversity of students, from almost all faculties and all grades enrolled. Some students join us in the mid-term of the year (which means, not welcome week), so please come and have a look!!
Do we need to make a certain number of pottery as a quota?
There is no quota. Each person can make pottery whenever they want.
There are some students who come only once a month, while there are also students who come almost every day.
Is Rakuyaki Pottery Club only for pottery?
It's up to you! Our members have different purposes: make pottery, chat with friends, play games, study, etc.
Events include cherry blossom viewing in spring, BBQ in summer, and imoni party in fall.
In addition, parties are held irregularly and on a whim in the clubroom where you can cook whatever you want.
How can I enroll in the club?
No special procedures are required.
If you frequently come to the club room and are recognized by the club members, then you are already a member of the Rakuyaki Pottery Club!!!
What can I do when I visit the club room?
You can basically do two things: Observation and a pottery-making trial.
You can see the club room and observe the club members making pottery. Please feel free to talk to the members and enjoy the atmosphere of the club.
You can also try to make pottery if you want! There are two main parts to make pottery: "making" and "shaving". However, it is difficult to do both two steps in one day, so we ask you to do the making part first. The experience takes approximately 1 hour.
Those who have made the pottery will be asked to come back to the club room the next day and shave it to complete your pottery. This part also takes about 1 hour.
Therefore, it is best to visit us when you have free time in two consecutive days. However, if you don't have time, you can just do the making part.
Also, we have separated club-room tour and hands-on experiences for your convenience, but you can make your decision after actually coming to the club room, so please feel free to stop by first!
How can I visit the club room or try pottery-making?
There are two ways for you to visit and experience:
① Just walk into the club room without a reservation.
② Contact us from the “Contact” tab on this website.
Generally, you are welcome to visit the club room directly without prior notice, but depending on the members present at the time, we may not be able to teach you pottery.
So, if you have any concerns, please contact us through the "Contact" tab and you will be able to try pottery-making for sure.
I am an international student. Can I join?
Of course! We welcome all students.
Several international students join our club every year.
I don't speak much Japanese. Can I visit/join the club?
It's okay! Needless to say, it is better if you can speak Japanese, but there were some international students who could not speak Japanese in the past.
Although you may have some difficulty or trouble communicating with the members, please feel free to come and see us!
